Rain is millions of tiny speech bubbles unused..

I've started looking at different ways I can do the text. As I want my book to look quite quirky, would like it to look quite hand drawn.

Going through the different fonts on Photoshop, none really sprung to my attention.
I did however like the style of Bookman Old Style:

I have decided I'm going to use this font, but drawn over each letter to make it look quirky. I really like how this has turned out.

Here is how it looks with the tortoises

Changes to the salamander

After talking with Paul, I've decided that Twilight probably isn't the best way to go with this design idea. It doesn't really fall under the demographic I'm selling my product to.

So instead, I've made some changes to the salamanders. I've taken off their wigs, and gotten rid of the role play kit.
I have also moved the foot on the male salamander as it wasn't looking quite right to me.

Here is the final design

Now I need to start sorting out speech bubbles!

Text?

Today I've been thinking about what typography I should use for my book, so have just been experimenting in my sketchbook.

I quite like the one for 'Just bite me already!' It would fit in well with the design idea I have for the book.

The others might not work that well, still I've enjoyed drawing these out. I like typography :)

Finished Salamander Design

Today I drew out the finalised salamander design, I'm still undecided about the bed but I guess I'll see how it goes when I start working on it in Photoshop.

More tortoise progress.

I started on the male tortoise today, still using the same techniques as before. I think I'm finding this section a bit quicker to do as I'm referring back to how I did it yesterday.

Tortoise in photoshop!

I have been working on the tortoise today. I wasn't really sure how to go about doing it as unlike the porcupine, there's a lot more parts to it.

I started off with the base coat, and just thought about it in layer, starting with the female first.

10:08 am
I have been trying to use the same techniques that I used on my pen and ink drawing, and have been zooming in really far into the drawing to add different mark making techniques. Including cross hatching, and drawing little lines and dots.

Trip to Marwell Zoo..

Today the uni took us to Marwell Zoo to do some drawing. I saw lots of nice animals:

This was possbly the funniest thing I've ever seen, it's penis even moved

I also made friends with this guy:

Just showing off some layers!

Porcupines nearly finished.

After saying I needed to research into slow motion urine, I remembered a guy I went to school with now works with slow motion cameras so I thought I'd ask him for some help....

Baring in mind I haven't spoken to him in about 5 years, that was kinda of awkward. Haha, but I'm glad I amused him.

Today I finished adding the details to my porcupines, and I also put eyes on them .

Drawing with a tablet!

I'd been a bit aprehensive about using my Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch tablet. I bought it last June but I hadn't been able to use it until now as my laptop at home isn't very powerful, and I found drawing with it on there really annoying. This is because it's really slow, and every line too atleast a second to load up on screen.

After some mishap with getting my tablet to work on the uni computers (it didn't have the right software installed) I had to borrow one of the uni laptops instead. This allowed me to work at my desk, which was quite nice.

I started off with the porcupine, and built the spikes up in layers. Very much like how I would draw it in real life. I did find the benefits of using a computer though, as it makes it easier to edit and change things.

Here is where I've gotten up to with the male porcupine I've only done the spikes so far and none of the facial details.

And again with the female. I have started doing some of her face this time though.

I need to research into how to draw urine. As my tutor has pointed out it doesn't come out in one long flow, more like droplets. So I'm going to look up slow mo videos of urine.

I'm starting to enjoy myself yay :)

Scanned images.

I've still got to draw the final salamander one but here are the outlines of my tortoises and porcupines, ready to be drawn on in Photoshop.
